Intense platform in Innsbruck (A), Europan 4

Froetscher and Lichtenwagner were winners of Europan 4, “Constructing the city upon the city”, in 1996 on the Centrum Odorf site in Innsbruck (A) and the project, a residential tower block and amenities around an urban square, is constructed. In the difficult context of the former Olympic village become a hounsing estate, the competition project offers a unity generated by a single new building - Clarity of shape- and a clearly defined square, designed as a living platform for social interaction. The structural system of a building results from the shape chosen and the layout of the place - Structural transformation-.
The implemented project introduces modifications to the programme, but without change to the morphology of the original project. There is a relationship between Ambiguity of perception and clarity of shape. When the user comes in direct contact with the building, an extra level of perception is added. The two-storey horizontal part accommodates all the public functions and defines a large central urban space. The tower, a long-drawn incision in its environment, is set aside for duali-aspect dwellings with panoramic views over the landscape. The square is designed as a platform for urban services and gives access to a shopping centre. Every place is Maximised.
