Residential platforms (NL), Europan 2

Tania Concko, winner of the 1991 Europan 2 competition, “Living in the city”, teamed with Pierre Gautier on the Zaanstad site (NL), has built a highly dense morsel of urban fabric along the river Zaan - Ambiguity -.
The winning project reuses the massive dimensions of the old riverside industrial buildings - Fusion -. and proposes a division where canals transform the blocks into floating urban platforms - Independence -.
The implemented project starts from the same idea of division in platforms. A walkway runs from the town centre straight along the Zaan while floating bridges on the cross-district canals link the promenade to back street - Attraction -. Inside the platforms, the buildings stand side by side but separate, unaligned, autonomous structures creating spaces of domestic life with their own specific qualities.
