Housing terminal in Den Haag (NL), Europan 4
Winners of the Europan 4 competition, “Constructing the city upon the city”, in 1996 on the Den Haag site (NL), Marjolijn Boudry and Pierre Boudry created their office “Atelier d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme” in May of the same year.
The competition project proposed a new relation between the artificial and natural worlds - Equilibrium -. The block consists of a layer of dwellings moored to a great area of greenhouses. The housing terminal is a spatial and temporal stratification of networks and communication links- Fluidity - which embeds movement in time and reflects the habits and lifestyles of the inhabitants - Compression / densification -.
The project built on another site, in Vijfhuizen, connects houses, walls, gardens, tracks, courtyards and fountains in order to “landscape” the space and bring into being an attractive neighbourhood life within it - Interface -. By creating openings in the structures, the project is opening up views and allows the eye to construct the landscape.
