Densification of a block in Saintes (F), Europan 3:

Thibaud Babled, Armand Nouvet and Marc Reynaud are winners of Europan 3 competition on the Saintes (F) site. In an old urban block right in the city centre, the competition concept is based on the desire to retain the unitary nature of the whole block, while increasing density at its centre by reactivating a network of alley-ways, with alternating gardens and houses - Graduated control-. The territorial structuring with its specific patterns and measures has a big influence on configuration of the block - Territorial matrix-.
The project develops this concept and new typologies: it proposes a discreet fabric of housing development that reciprocally highlights built elements and greenery - Nature- and introduces contemporary construction into a historic site - Ambivalence-.
