Whatever are the nationality and/or the place of leaving, only is taken in account the fact that the diploma is an European one or that the practice is already recognized in Europe, in accordance with competition rules in force in the participating countries
Who can be member of the team ?
Teams may include associates and contributors who are of the same or of any other disciplines.
All members of the team, whatever their profession, must be under 40 years old on the closing date for submission of projects.
ATTENTION : Photocopies of the diplomas and identity cards of each members of the team must be included in the sealed envelope, and sent together with the entries (rules. 2.4).

I am on the way to get my architectural diploma, can I participate to Europan ?
All architects must be qualified and/or authorised to practise the profession of architect at the closing date for submission of entries by the team.

I wish to buy several full sites files, how much does it cost ?
The first full site file cost 100 €, for ones after it cost 50 € per file.
For the national competitors who are nationals and current residents from the following list (Albania, Byelorussia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldavia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Yugoslav Republic), the first full site file as the ones after cost 50 €. per file.
How can I get a bill ?
« If the payment is validated, the team’s representative receives a payment”
This ticket act as an invoice.
To which secretariat do I have to send my entry ?
“The choice of site determines the country to which the entry must be returned and in which it will be judged.”
So : Entry have to be send to the national secretariat of the country of the choosen site.
What includes the entry ?
The entry submitted by competitors or teams of competitors must comprise three A1-format panels, an A3-format bound in two copies, a CD-ROM in two copies with documents on PDF format, and one A4-format sealed envelope.
Be careful to write on each document the chosen code and the name of the city.
Three A1 boards
These 594 mm x 840 mm boards consist of graphic documents mounted on flat, stiff, light, strong backings. They should be laid out vertically and numbered 1 to 3.
Content of the boards:
- Board 1 explains the urban ideas developed in the project with reference to the concerns of the city and the thematic orientations of the proposal.
- boards 2 and 3 present the project as a whole, highlighting the architecture of the project, and more particularly the relationship between the new developments and the site’s existing context. This is done through three-dimensional representations of the project, by means of a few significant features explaining the project options and forms in terms of the proposed lifestyles.
The scales used in graphic and descriptive documents must be specified on all documents. These scales must in all cases be graphic scales.
Entrants are free to use any colours they wish in their submissions. It is up to each entrant or team to ensure that their project is presented in a graphic form that can easily be reproduced for publication and that the three boards can easily be duplicated.
Failure to comply with the above requirements on board presentation may, at the jury’s discretion, result in the disqualification of the entrant in question. Under no circumstances will the jury consider additional documents or models.
Bound document
The bound document is in A3 format (420 mm x 297 mm).
Two copies of this document must be provided.
It consists of a maximum of 10 pages:
- a brief summary single page summary of the problems tackled, and the conceptual approach to the project, written in English;
- one page for a reduced colour copy of board 1,
- one page for a reduced colour copy of board 2,
- one page for a reduced colour copy of board 3,
- no more than 3 pages explaining how the project addresses the issues raised by the theme of Europan 9,
- no more than one page on the programme chosen and its connection with the programmatic framework proposed on the site,
- no more than one page giving the surface areas of the different parts of the project, a brief economic feasibility study, and the building process involved,
- no more than one page on the technical and construction details, if applicable,
- drawings may be included or attached to explain the textual content.
CD-ROM or DVD
The CDRom or DVD contains, Mac and PC compatible :
- each A1board, in 300 dpi résolution PDF format, size A3
- each A1board, in 72 dpi résolution PDF format, web size (1024 pixels)
- The bound document and any graphic content required to enhance understanding the project, in 300dpi resolution PDF format, size A3
Each document must be in two versions, one in vectorized pdf, and one in jpg.
Each document must be given a descriptive name.
Two copies of the CD-ROM or DVD must be sent.
Sealed envelope
The documents disclosing the competitor’s identity and proof that the proposal meets all the qualification requirements, must be placed in an A4 (210 mm x 297 mm) envelope.
Please note that failure to include all the documents listed in paragraphs 1 to 5 will result in the team in question being disqualified.
This envelope contains:
1- A completed printout of the entrant or team’s online ID form.
2- A signed printout of the online declaration of authorship and agreement to abide by the competition rules.
3- For the team leader, a photocopy of his or her qualifications and/or authorization to be responsible for the design and implementation of an architectural or urban project under the national rules of the country where the site is located.
4- For every associate, whether as an architect or in another discipline, a photocopy of his or her qualifications.
5- For the team leader, every associate and every collaborator, a photocopy of the ID document, providing evidence that they are under the age of 40, whatever their profession.
The sealed envelop should contain no other documents than those listed in paragraphs 1 to 5.

Which is the closing date for submission of entries, 28 June 2007 (closing date for hanging in or sending entries) , or 23 July 2007 (closing date for receipt of entries) ?
This date limit for receipt in no way replaces the date limit for submission. Any entry sent by post or messenger service after the date limit of 28 June 2007 will be declared invalid. The shipping date, certified by the express delivery or postal services, must appear on the packaging.
Is the Towns and Juries Forum on November 2007 public ?
No.
Towns and Juries Forum is working time carried out in house to compare entries at an European level. There, the anonimity of projects is still keept.
Are prizes amont free of taxes? How long after the results of the compettion do the competitors receive them?
The winners will receive prize money amounting to the equivalent of 12,000 € (including tax) in the currency of the country in which the site is located (at the exchange rate on the date of payment of prize money).
Runners-up receive prize money amounting to the equivalent of 6 000 € (including tax) in the currency of the country in which the site is located (at the exchange rate on the date of payment of prize money).
Some countries are taking out of the prize amount taxes when prizes are send to foreign country.
The organisers undertake to abide by the decisions of the national juries and to pay the prize money within 90 days of the announcement of results.
Legal provisions in Switzerland for foreign architects
In Switzerland, competitions are open to any architects located in Swiss or in any country belonging to the ones that signs the OMC agreements on public markets, and if architects meet the following requirements:
1. To have a diploma or a diploma equivalence with the Zürich and Lausanne federal polytechnic schools, or with the Institute of Architecture of the Geneva University (IAUG or EAUG), or with High Specialized Studies (HES or ETS).
2. To be registered with the architects professional register REG A or B (Swiss Foundation of engineers, architects or technicians Registers.
In Europe, the swiss conditions are available; therefore, European conditions precise more in details the requirements for partnerships.
I only get my diploma of architect without professionnal registration, can I participate ?
To have the academic diploma of architect is enough.
I have a diploma of lanscape planner, can I participate as team leader ?

A lanscape planner can be the team leader except if the national law of the country where the site is located does not allow.

There is no information in the rules about the orientation of the bound document in A3 format. Has it be laid out horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait) ?
- The bound document in A3 format can be laid out horizontally as well as vertically, belonging tjhe choice of the competitor.
- Only, the three A1 boards should be laid out vertically.

I am 40 years old, my two associates are older than 40. Can I participate in the Europan competition on a individual bases?
Yes, on a purely personal basis
Europan competition is to promote young architects. In order to protect these ones and to avoid that established offices use young employees to participate to Europan, registration can only be linked to one or more physical persons.

Does the Suisse law authorize a Landscape Architect to be responsible for the design and implementation of an architectural or urban project?

I graduated as an architect in Romania, and I am still registered there. My current residency is in New Zealand where I live for almost 4 years.please advise me if I could participate to this competition. My options are from Italy, France and Switzerland
